I made this tote bag with a thrifted black leather skirt, sherpa and leather handles. It has a cozy Scandinavian winter vibe which I love. This was my first time installing rivets, it wasn't too hard, but I practiced on scraps of the actual materials I was using in order to the hang of it. I didn't follow a pattern, I just used the same size rectangle for the outer fabric and lining fabric and did boxed corners making a 6" gusset.
The inside pocket is made with improv pieced scraps, it accidentally got left off of a quilt I made earlier this year and I'm so glad I used it for a special project.
The 1" leather handles are from Tandy Leather. I had some 1/2" leather straps on hand, but for such a heavy bag, they not only looked silly but wouldn't be durable enough for the job, the 1" handles are perfect, it's worth the extra cost.
